Since joining Xposé as part of the original all female line-up in 2006, Clare woman Aisling O’Loughlin has interviewed a galaxy of stars, such as Dustin Hoffman, Denzel Washington, Peter O’Toole, Renee Zellweger, Dolly Parton and Noel Gallagher, to name but a few. One of her most memorable interviews involved stealing a kiss off George Clooney on the red carpet in London’s Leicester Square.
Having cut her teeth in the TV3 newsroom for six years as a news anchor and reporter, Aisling took a change of direction and embraced the world of entertainment by joining TV3’s primetime show Xposé. The Shannon native says, ‘The same rules apply. You still have to tell a story in a simple, engaging manner and just like news, there has to be a hook to your report.
Thankfully with entertainment, you get to be more creative with the editing and you’re allowed to show more of your personality than you can in news’.
Aisling studied journalism at Dublin City University and as part of her internship worked on Pat Kenny’s radio show in RTE, where she got her first taste of broadcasting by reporting on a range of current affairs subjects.
Before studying in Toulouse, France for a semester she also worked in the newsroom of Clare FM reading the news and reporting on local issues.
But it was with the Limerick Evening Echo newspaper where Aisling got the opportunity to cover serious news stories from gangland violence to emergency landings at Shannon Airport. Being a past-pupil of Villiers secondary school on Limerick’s North Circular Road gave her a good knowledge and understanding of the Treaty City.
Aisling says, ‘One of my best memories of Xposé to date has to be interviewing Pierce Brosnan just outside Athens in Greece for the world premiere of Mamma Mia the movie. We did all the interviews outdoors with blue skies and sea in the backdrop and I anchored the show from the beach later that day. It was certainly a good day at the office’.
